When we work together, no one has to stand alone. This work doesn’t just transform one neighborhood—it creates a ripple effect that can impact communities across the nation, breaking barriers without shame or fear.

I moved to this community with no family or friends. I found myself in a space filled with different cultural aspects, and although it was unfamiliar, I was willing to try my best to fit in and be known for who I am—not just what I look like.

After many years of living here, I spoke with my pastor’s wife about wanting to get more involved in the community and learn about different cultures and perspectives. She encouraged me to join a call to learn more about a local organization focused on inclusion. As I listened to everyone’s views and experiences on building inclusiveness across cultures, I felt a spark—I knew in that moment this was the perfect organization for me to be a part of.

Watching how far this organization has come, and where it’s headed, has shown me that there is always room for growth and real change.

Why It’s Important for Me to Be Involved

Being involved is deeply personal to me. I lived in this community for many years without feeling like I truly belonged. People often overlooked my abilities and only saw my appearance. Some thought I was too loud for a community that valued silence. But in this organization, my voice is not only heard—it’s valued, not judged.

I even joined a book club—something I hadn’t done in years. We read a book about racism, and through our discussions, we brought insight and real-life revelations into the room. Sitting in a diverse space where everyone came together to learn, grow, and share was incredibly empowering.

Why This Work Matters Now

The changes taking place in our society are reshaping how people view community, unity, and belonging. That’s why organizations focused on equity, inclusion, and diversity are so vital. They give voice to those who have felt silenced and help bring healing to communities that have long been divided.

When we work together, no one has to stand alone. This work doesn’t just transform one neighborhood—it creates a ripple effect that can impact communities across the nation, breaking barriers without shame or fear.

Vision for Change

Being part of a diverse community has allowed me to show others that I am more than my skin color. When we show up and speak out, our presence carries power. We need to see each other as neighbors, not just numbers. True change isn’t handed down—it’s co-created.

Diversity isn’t a challenge to overcome; it’s a strength to embrace. The programs and events we continue to build don’t cater to just the majority—they reflect the beauty and richness of our entire community.

We must remember: it doesn’t stop with us. The work we do today helps ensure the next generation inherits something greater—something inclusive, empowering, and united.
