2021 Empower Baraboo
The Baraboo Acts Coalition, in partnership with the Baraboo School District, UW Platteville-Baraboo/Sauk County, the City of Baraboo, UW Madison Extension, and the Sauk County Department of Public Health hosted Empower Baraboo: Creating a More Just, Equitable, Diverse and Inclusive Community on December 3rd and December 10th, 2021. This workshop took place on the UW Platteville Baraboo/Sauk County campus and was attended by community members representing a cross-section of business, civic, educational, non-profit and faith-based, area-wide leaders.
I thought the content and facilitation was strong and the experience was great overall. I will keep learning about race and equity, especially how to bridge the political divide when discussing these important topics. I will continue to challenge my own biases.
I came out of the trainings very uncomfortable with my lack of knowledge and awareness of my personal actions or rather my lack of action - it was a phenomenal space created to be vulnerable and absorb from those around me.
First I was excited that there were so many people participating that I didn't already know. The gathering really helped build and grow a leadership cohort for the community. Really important learning happened and valuable to do so in a safe, group setting.
